A Comprehensive Guide to Integrating Mindfulness Into Your Everyday Life

In the 12 months of the CREATRIX School, we are looking at twelve different key areas, that are essential to living life with ease, love and success – or living your best life as your qu_ing self.

Training our mind to become more mindful is one of these 12 key areas.

As with all of my teachings, I’m not just going to discuss the benefits of mindfulness or tell you why it is so important to create a daily mindfulness practice, I want to help you to easily integrate a mindfulness practice into every aspect of your life and I’m going to show you exactly how you can do it.

But first things first.

What exactly do we mean when we talk about mindfulness?

This is what the Mayo Clinic says about mindfulness:

Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.

I would say that mindfulness is not just a type of meditation, something that seems to be separate or a break from everyday life, but that mindfulness can really become an integral part of life.

Which means that our mindfulness practice can be a part of everything that we do, and definitely begins every time we find ourselves judging ourselves or someone else.

Why do we start here? Because judging is never helpful. I’ve written about why that is so in more detail in the article on how to overcome negative thinking.

In short, I would say that judging blocks the flow of life and keeps us from gracefully handling a situation, it keeps us from being in the moment by bringing up opinions or memories of past situations.

Yet, if we mindfully observe a situation without judging it, we can actually find out what the best way to proceed is and then take it.

We will practice this in detail in the CREATRIX School in April.

But to be able to become a mindful observer of our actions and thoughts, I believe, is impossible without a regular meditation practice. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Countless studies prove that meditation helps us to be more focused and present, happier, healthier and more relaxed.

If you don’t yet have a regular meditation practice, let today be the day you start because it will change your life for the better, like nothing else will.

So, this is where we will start in the CREATRIX School as well, join us to have the accountability to stick with it and get help if you struggle or encounter difficulties.

If you’d like to get started on your own, I’ve written another article to show you some easy tricks to create a regular meditation practice.

One element that is key here, though is, that it is easier to implement a rule 100% than to do it 99%.

Because if you don’t commit to doing it every day, you have to ask yourself and argue with yourself every day, if today is the right day to skip 😉

Studies have shown, that even 1 minute of meditation has significant effects on our well-being, so there’s really no excuse – anyone can find one minute to meditate every day.

You could even do that in the bathroom during your break at work, before you go to bed, or right after you get up.

I would recommend meditating for at least five to ten minutes because the effects will be even more noticeable, but to start, just do what seems doable for you. Focusing on actually doing it every day is much more important than the amount of time you spend meditating.

The positive effects you will have from your daily meditation practice, will also most definitely buy you back the time you spend meditating, as you become more focused, more aware, quicker to react and gain more clarity about the direction of your life in general.

A Quick note

People often ask me about the best apps to use for meditation and I will make an extra post about the different mediation styles in the next couple of days, but I want to let you know here, that you don’t need an app to meditate.

All you need is to sit still and close your eyes and try to think of nothing. It’s the simplest and, simultaneously, probably also the hardest thing.

But that’s what makes it fun.

Mindfulness beyond meditation

Apart from the formal practice of mediation, for me, mindfulness starts with the way we talk to ourselves.

In theCREATRIX School, as well as in my QU_ING Coaching programme, I teach people how to overcome negative thinking because it’s the first step to a mindful life.

As long as we spend our time judging or criticizing, blaming or shaming ourselves, we are in the past and not in the present moment.

So, we will start by noticing how we speak to ourselves.

How do you speak with yourself? How often do you judge yourself?

Why do we practice mindfulness?

The goal of establishing a mindfulness practice is to reduce stress, anxiety and to become more aware and, with that, more able to enjoy and fully participate in life.

It helps us to see things more clearly, and most of all, it helps us find more love for ourselves and all life around us, which inevitably leads to a more joyful and fulfilled life.

Many of us, me included, have grown up surrounded by voices of fear, insecurity and criticism.

These voices, however well intended they might have been, are now in our heads and they can literally ruin our lives or at least make life pretty miserable.

But most people can’t just switch to a new language, without actually hearing somebody speak to us in different ways.

And guided meditation can help a lot here.

When I first began my self-actualization journey, I bought the Hay House audio app, something that I can strongly recommend because you can find such a vast variety of meditations as well as super helpful and kind audiobooks there.

One guided meditation that I remember especially well is a morning meditation from Abiola Abrams, which starts with her saying something like: “This is a wonderful day, simply because you opened up your eyes.”

I cried every time I heard her say that in the beginning because nobody had ever said something so nice to me before.

I needed to hear other people say nice things to me, before I could really start to say them to myself, maybe this is true for you too.

This is important

Way too often people think, meditation or mindfulness or self-love or other nice and beneficial things are not for them, or that they can’t do these things, when really, they just don’t know how, or think it needs to work the first time they try.

This takes time and patience. You start by listening to other people say nice things to you, and my favourite – listen especially closely whenever you think: this is silly, this is ridiculous, no one talks like that, this makes me uncomfortable.

Whenever that happens, you are precisely where you need to grow. You hear the words you think you don’t deserve. But you do.

So give yourself some time and grace to start to become more mindful of your language and your thoughts. Be kind to yourself.

We, our bodies, are always in vibration, and every thought and every word creates a vibration that has an effect on us.

The more mindful we become, the more we raise our vibration and with that, better our circumstances and find more ease, joy and love.

How mindful are you?

Now that you know the basics of mindfulness – do you think you could use some support to create a better mindfulness practice?

If you’d like to really establish a meditation practice, not just for today or this week, but for the rest of your life and you’d also like to train yourself to talk to yourself in a way that raises your vibration, then book a call with me, or join the CREATRIX School so we work all of this out together.

We really have the power to change everything that we want, even the way we think about ourselves or how we speak to ourselves – we might just not know how — yet.

I dedicate my life to helping people learn the basic, but fundamental things to live happy, healthy and free lives because I believe that this is what we’re here for.

We are not here to cope and struggle to get by – we are here to enjoy our lives and experience them fully, mindfully.

Get Your Personal Wheel of Colours

The Wheel of Colours is a traditional tool to help us understand what we need or can share in certain situations.

We are all made up out of the same colours, but they are arranged uniquely in each person – which is why we need or can give different things in different moments.

If you’d like to find out what can support YOU when starting a project, or working with other people, to successfully finish something, to heal, to spark your creativity or what your unique gift is, that you bring to the world, then the Wheel of Colours will help you to see this and yourself more clearly and show you how to use these insights in practical ways.

It will also show you how you can listen to your inner truth and that of others, what your most important lesson is in life and what challenges you might have to overcome.

Once you’ve learned what you need to learn, you can start the wheel again, this time more smoothly.

In the past, people often only got these insights and realizations towards the end of their lives – but you don’t have to wait until then.

🌈 You have the power to create your reality.

Clarity - Confidence - Connection

In the CREATRIX School we bring clarity, confidence and connection into every area of our lives - and we look at a different topic each month.

This month is all about community, and thinking about how we can best work and come together with others - so that we can build the world we want to live in together.

It's fun, it's exciting, and it is surely also challenging, as we have to become honest about our wants, needs and desires.

What are yours?
