The Colour Black – Meditation, Introspection & Reflection

The Wheel of Colours has 13 fields and 13 colours – each field represents a different challenge, gift or lesson which we have to master in our lifetimes and the colours in our unique wheel show each of us how we can master them best, with our unique abilities.

We are all made up of the same colours, but the colours are arranged differently for each of us on our wheels.

For example, black is the colour for meditation, introspection & reflection.

I will never forget the conversation I had with someone I love dearly, but hadn’t seen in a while, who, when I asked him if he meditated, replied that meditation just wasn’t for him – which, of course, is not true, as mediation is the truest state of existence for all of us – we might not know how to sit and meditate – yet, but we can all learn, or remember, and, if you’re interested, I’d be happy to tell you where and how to get started below.

In the last article I wrote about the colours of the Wheel of Colours, about the colour rose, we saw the importance of seeing and sensing what is going on around us and sharing our unique perception honestly.

The colour black now takes us inside to ourselves, to have a look at our internal world and inner wisdom, to see what we can make of the things we sense and see and to reflect on them so that we can move on and forward in the best possible way.

For some of us, usually those who have black at the beginning of their wheel, it might seem hard to break out of their shell, for those, it’s easy to go deep and look within, reflect and rejoice. Yet, going out and sharing the beauty from within might be a little harder and something they can work on because they have many valuable insights to share, while others (those with black in the second half of their wheel) have to learn to meditate, look within and grow that connection to their own soul and inner beauty over time by learning the lessons life presents them with – or taking this step consciously.

Which is true for you?
You might be able to guess, looking at your life and how you feel.

But if you want to be sure, you may also order your unique Wheel of Colours from me, to find out.

If you have your wheel already and/or think you can use some help to learn how to best use the qualities of the colour black, how to build a connection to your soul wisdom, to the collective consciousness and find answers within  – then I’d be happy to show you some practical ways to do that, in this article.

The classical field for the colour black in the Wheel of Colours is the twelfth field.

The twelfth field shows us our hidden and most important lesson and guides us to our calling.

Quite a few people I’ve made a wheel for, do have black as their twelfth colour – which points to something interesting in the evolution of our consciousness:

Reflection and introspection used to come at the end of our lives, it would be the final thing we did, after retiring from major responsibilities, to make sense of the world, to evaluate our lives, to share wisdom as an elder and to prepare for our approaching death.

Meditation and reflection is what precedes the clarity of enlightenment, all-knowing, all-understanding, which we reach when we die.

The classical position of the colour red in the Wheel of Colours

But in today’s world, we do not have to, and many of us don’t want to, wait for our lives to come to an end to take this step.

And we can actually start to look within, setting up a meditation practice and begin to reflect on our lives right now. This is mandatory if we want to find enlightenment, before our death or a near-death experience.

As an extra bonus, we also find much more freedom in life in general, when we start to meditate and learn more about ourselves.

In Buddhism, it is said that freedom lies in the moment between a trigger and our reaction – because this is when we change the world, when we’re not doomed to react a certain way, but can practice free choice – and we learn to notice and prolong this moment when we begin to meditate.

But, if you, like me, were raised around a lot of western ideology and rational thinking, you were most likely not brought up or trained to practice meditation and introspection, and to follow your inner guidance, but to follow rules, to not think or question too much and to do what’s expected of you.

Luckily, we can change, and the colour black is here to help us get from a reactive state to self-recognition, creation and mastery.

This life-time is here for us to enjoy, to grow, to experience and to love, it’s here for us to find out who we want to be and then to be that, to explore all that is possible for us and to know how to do that.

Introspection, meditation and reflection will help us to be and experience all of that and to get to know our true and incredibly powerful selves.

1. Who am I? or: Who do I want to be?

When we take the traditional road of being a human, don’t awake to remember all that is truly possible for us and let life happen to us, instead of choosing to become a master at life and to choose our experiences, then we only come to this question when we have few chances left to do anything about it – at the end of our lives.

Then, we look back at our lives, see it with some distance and more wisdom and start to think about what it all might have meant – which is absolutely fine if that’s what we wish to do – but most of us don’t, we simply don’t know that we have an option to change things – until we do.

When people discover how everything is connected and how their own choices influenced their lives, they realize that if they had taken the time to reflect on this before, they would have made different choices, like valued love and spending time together over money and career, spoke more kind words to those they loved and wouldn’t have let fear or peer pressure or family expectations stop them, from doing what would have made them happy.

Because of this, we spend four weeks of the CREATRIX School, looking at how we can live a life without regrets now, by looking at the top five regrets people have on their death beds, and then beginning to ask the most important questions now – so that we can spend the rest of our life living the life we wish to have and don’t have to wish we would have thought about this sooner.

Because everything is possible for us now, not tomorrow, not in a year, and we also haven’t missed our chance yet – we just have to take our chances – starting today.

I’ve been going deep within and looking without for a very long time to find all the answers to the questions we need to solve all the problems in this world, and found that everything always starts with ourselves.

So if we want to decide how we wish to live this life, then we first have to understand who we are.

And we are eternal souls in a temporary body experience and our souls, the highest version of ourselves, chose for us to be born into exactly the circumstances we were born into, as this would provide us with the best learning experience.

The next thing we have to understand is that we are free to do whatever we want with our lives – because they are our lives – not our parent’s, our countries’ or anybody else’s.

This is our experience, and we are free to do whatever we wish, even if people who have not yet rediscovered their full power, might tell us otherwise.

We are under the law of the universe though, and under that of our states, but within these parameters we can choose freely.

And while the laws of the universe support us in everything we do, the laws of our states might not, so if we can believe in ourselves enough, and bring together enough people who agree to change things for the benefit of more people, we have the freedom and possibility to change state or country laws as well.

The biggest problem here is that before we become conscious about the options we have, that we think that we have to do what others have done before us, or stick to the rules and traditions others obey to.

And we are absolutely free to choose to do so, but we can also decide to do something else – that serves our highest good and the highest good of all.

If we decide that that is what we would like to do, the next step then is to choose from all the possibilities and options we have, either by trying and then ruling out or by letting us be guided by intuition, God/source energy, and guides or our highest self.

But when all the options that exist so far, are not good enough either, then it gets really tricky, as we might have to think of things that have never existed before – to begin to live our best lives.

Do you remember the times when we would watch movies in awe, in which people would be able to see a live video of the person they were speaking with in their living room, and it was so wild and far out that we did not even think this could be possible in our lifetimes?

That kind of thinking.

Once we come up with an idea, a solution to a problem, we can find a way to build that, but first we have to have the idea – even if nothing like it has ever existed before.

If we wish to become a master at life, we have to start thinking about how we wish to live our life, not look at the things that limit us or that we have now.

And we start that by questioning everything that bothers us.

For all the things that are there, and that we are not happy with because they limit us in our personal freedom, we can think about whether we want to keep them this way or if we can come up with something else that would work better.

And to find that which might work better, but that has not been here before, we can’t look around, we have to look within – and connect to our true inner power.

From here we begin to discover who we truly are and how believing in ourselves, will indeed make everything possible for us.

We will get the guidance we need for everything, and we will begin to know exactly what to do next, the more in tune we become with our inner self, and the more we tune in, the more things will come and flow to us.

Our life is always a reflection of what we believed about ourselves so far, and we can always change our beliefs about ourselves, if we are not happy with what we have now.

So when you look at your life today – who have you been?

How do you see your essence reflected in your life?

Who did you believe you were so far?

Are you a master of your life yet?

Or would you like to become one?

What do you see when you look at your life?

What of your beliefs do you see reflected in it?

What have you done, what do you do, and where are you headed?

And is that also where you want to go, or do you think there are some things which could be improved or adjusted for a different, possibly a better outcome?

We explore these questions in great detail in the SELF-ACTUALIZATION chapter of the CREATRIX School – because they are most essential to living a conscious and happy life – and this chapter also comes with all the worksheets and tools to help you make even your wildest and most unrealistic seeming goals possible (because they are – you have all it takes, you just have to go for them).

So if you feel like you’d want to find more certainty here, to believe you can change anything in the world and your life, join us, I promise you your life will never be the same again in the best possible way!

But for today, I will ask this again:

Who do you want to be?

Who would you be if you could be anything and live any kind of life?

Because if you don’t decide what your life is going to look like yourself, you will have to live the life others mapped out for you and that is most likely neither in their nor in your best interest – because it comes from fear, from tradition, from ego, from keeping things as they are and not from the wish to expand and explore all that is possible (unless you are lucky and come from supportive and enlightened circumstances).

You are living your life, no one else is.

And you get to decide how.

All the answers to all questions are waiting for you within yourself, you just have to quiet down and slow down enough to listen.

You represent God/source energy/the divine on earth –  we all do, but to be living as that we need to re-establish our connection to the divine guidance, that we find when looking within.

2. Where do Ideas come from?

If we want to find truly unique answers, we have to go within.

When we do what everybody else is doing, then we also get the same results that other people are getting, if we wish to find something special, extraordinary and surprising, we can’t look at others, we have to look into the wide and open abyss of our inner world. Just ask yourself:

Which people do I remember the most?

The ones who did what they were told to do, who did what everyone else was doing, or the ones that did something else?

And then ask yourself:

What do I want to be remembered for?

This is what you get to decide.

Once you know, you can start living the life that will allow you to be seen and remembered for who you truly are and not as the one who didn’t dare to live their dreams.

Self-doubt and group thinking doesn’t just limit our abilities to act, it also limits our abilities to dream and think outside the box.

We can stay where we are, where the people around us are, or decide that we want more or something else.

Like lobsters, thrown into a pot of boiling water, we can decide if we want to hold each other down, so we all die together, or help to lift each other up so that some, or all, of us might find an escape and a chance to live a life true to ourselves – possibly even one that we can enjoy from morning until night.

No one is stopping us from living our dreams but we ourselves, by making excuses, which might sound like this:

“I don’t think I have what it takes.”

“Others have failed trying this, why should I be able to make it happen?”

Whatever we say to keep us from living as our true selves are lies, they are fears others have projected onto us and that we’ve adopted – but that doesn’t make them true.

We can do anything and everything – we just have to find it in ourselves to believe that – and for that, we cannot get around looking within.

We don’t have to keep a job, we don’t have to find a new job, we don’t have to struggle to survive, we can do whatever we wish – we just have to decide what that might be and then find out HOW we can do it.

Self-doubt, or valuing other opinions higher than our own, is our biggest enemy.

But to overcome it, we have to look within to discover our full strength.

The more we understand why we did things the way we did and where it let us, the easier it becomes to see how we can change things.

All courses of the CREATRIX School, bring us closer to this kind of self-recognition and with that, the confidence to listen to ourselves, to discover our unique ideas and wishes and to see them manifest in the world.

Once we can begin to see ourselves clearly on our unique path, understand how incredibly powerful we are, then we can also free ourselves from trying to fit in by limiting ourselves.

But none of that is possible without honest introspection.

Do you think Albert Einstein would have been able to do what he didn’t if he had any doubt that he could?

You can play this game with any person you admire and find that the common denominator is that they believed they could do something, that no one else has done before.

And you can do the same.

You might not be able to do what Einstein did, and that wouldn’t be very useful either because he’s already done it, but you can do your unique thing and share that with the world.

Unique ideas come to us when we’re quiet.

When we allow ourselves to relax, when we don’t think, or problem solve or run around, when we open up to divine inspiration.

Unique ideas come to us, when we’re in nature, in water, or watching loved ones.

They come to us when we dare to open our hearts.

If you’d like to find out how this works, ask a question, something you have no idea about, but something you would genuinely like to know, and then see how the answer comes to you, in the next few days and how and when you least expect it.

Just give it a try. And if you like, let me know how it worked!

3. Introspection & Reflection

Now that we know who we are, that we chose to be where we are, that we can be and do whatever we would like to be and do, and that we can find answers to all problems within – we can have a closer look at what it takes to put this into practice.

When looking at the qualities of the colour rose, we recognized that we often choose to see what we want to see around us – and the same is often true when we look at ourselves.

We are not really being honest, we just see what we wish to see.

But honest introspection is always the first step to creating the changes we wish to see in the world and in our lives.

Every chapter of the CREATRIX School is designed with this in mind.

We start each new chapter by looking within and seeing how this area of our lives has played out so far, and then see what we wish to change about that so that it aligns with our unique selves, and needs and wishes more.

One difficult truth might be, however, that whenever we encounter a problem in life – it’s our fault – we are the ones who’ve created it.

If things are not going the way we wish them to go, it’s always because of us.

And there is a reason why I’m saying that, and this is that only when we see things this way, when we can look ourselves in the eyes without blinking, then can we change whatever we wish to change as well.

When we blame parents, circumstances, other people, or conditions for our misfortunes, we give up our power and give them power over our lives.

So we have to be honest here:

Everything in our lives, that is not going the way we wish it would go, we have the power to change – but for that, we have to take full responsibility for our lives and stop blaming anyone or anything else.

And we can look at an example here.

One thing, that might be relevant for a lot of people, especially since COVID changed our world, is to think about how much and how we would like to work.

Because we have the freedom to do whatever we wish. If we accept the circumstances as they are, that is our choice, but we also have the power to change them – we simply have to do it.

And when it comes to work, I always remember that in Sara Landon’s book Messages from The Council of Light the Council of Light says that in the Golden Age, or New Earth, or Heaven on Earth, work will be like going to a pond and whoever puts their fishing rod out finds enough fish for themselves so that we don’t have to fight for the best spot, we all get what we want and wish for – easily, joyfully.

And using the universal or spiritual laws, we can make this happen right now and, thus, start living in Heaven on Earth, today.

It’s what I do more and more each day, and what many have done before me and many more will understand how to do – now.

If we continue to keep up with unbearable working conditions, we are the ones allowing for things to continue, our actions show our consent, no matter how much we complain or think it’s unfair.

If we don’t like something, we need to change it, and we can.

We have all the support and miraculous powers needed to make ANY change come about.

In the GROWTH Chapter of the CREATRIX School, I teach you all about the most important spiritual laws, so you can start living your best and most aligned life today as well.

But independent of knowing those, you can always look within to find out what it is that you want to do in your life, your IKIGAI.

The Wheel of Colours, of course, can help you with this as well, as you can look at your core and the gift you came to share with the world, to get an idea of what your soul desires to express and to share the gifts you were given.

Then you can become your fullest and truest self and attract the people to you, who are looking for you and your unique gifts and offers – hold your fishing rod up, so to speak, so the fish can fly to you.

Happiness is easy when you can be your true self and surround yourself with people who love you for who you are – but all of this can only happen if you dare to look within to find out and acknowledge and begin to love and nurture who you truly are, when you are so honest with yourself that you see and understand that you never had a reason to doubt yourself, and your abilities, you always had it all, and can start to use all you have now – and the colour black can take you back to yourself to recognize this.

4. Meditation

There are many ways to meditate.

I remember a friend giving me a book by Pema Chödrön, many years ago, before I had a regular meditation practice, and realizing that I had been meditating, contemplating, practising presence all my life – I just didn’t know that there were names for it.

Sitting outside gazing at the sky can be a form of meditation. We can practice breathing meditation and walking meditation, sitting meditation, sound healing and so much more.

There is not one way to stop the chatter in our minds, but many, and there’s no harm in trying around a little to see what works best for us, right now.

For the CREATRIX School I’ve written about how to start and set up your meditation practice in the chapter on REST.

And you can also check out my article on setting up a meditation practice that lasts.

But I guess what is really most important here is to start to build a connection with yourself and with the divine.

If you are afraid to learn what may come up when you get quiet enough to listen to yourself, then that’s OK, feel into yourself and allow yourself to decide when the time is right, see that you have the support you need to help you process what might come up, and don’t do more than you can handle.

Or do a little more than you think you can handle, to allow yourself to find out that you can actually handle it all. If you were able to live and suppress it, you can also let it go now.

There might have been things you’ve been suppressing, for good reason because you simply didn’t know what else to do then, but if you need support with whatever you experienced, you can find it now.

There might have been things you’ve not dared to look at yet, but you will only be able to free yourself from them, once you look them in the eye – kind of like the monster under the bed – it’s only there for as long as you don’t dare to look at it.

Once it’s out, you can let it disappear.

There are techniques you can use to rewrite your history, we practice this in the CREATRIX School as well, and it changes lives.

Fear, avoidance, suppression is always holding us hostage, fear of seeing the truth, fear to recognize that we always knew, that we kept deciding against ourselves or whatever it may be for you.

When we quiet down enough to hear the voice of God, of source energy, of spirit, of the divine, or of our guides, then we can’t hide from ourselves any more – and they will guide us to the best possible outcome and free us from what has been troubling us all our lives.

Whoever has experienced a dark night of the soul, a spiritual awakening, knows there’s only so much you can do to hide, when spirit calls us, it’s time to wake up and to begin to live as the master or qu_ing we were always meant to be – there’s no better and kinder guidance than that from within, even if it is challenging us to question everything we believed in so far.

Meditation might require bravery.

It might require you to leave your comfort zone, but the rewards are the greatest as well – because it will take you back to you and who you always were – and how you were always meant to live.

I’ve not ever heard a person say: “I wish I had never started to meditate”.

Once you start, your life will change forever – for the better.

5. The journey to yourself

The Wheel of Colours takes us on a journey through our lives. It shows us everything we need to know about ourselves to thrive.

Writing these articles on the colours has helped me to see this even more clearly.

The classic position of the colour black is in the 12th field, the last field of the wheel because often our hardest lesson and our gift at the same time is to recognize ourselves and to see ourselves for who we are.

It’s what we need to live our lives with clarity and mastery.

There might be many things that we would like to see and experience, have or build, create and achieve in our lives, yet, whatever we do, will always direct us back to ourselves.

Many people who thought they would find happiness or peace in their achievements or creations had to find out that whatever it is we are looking for in life, is never to be found or achieved in the external, it always has to be cultivated on the internal.

Now, many of us were raised with the idea that parents, or circumstances caused certain things to be in certain ways in our lives, and that may be so until we become conscious of the fact, that no matter what happened to us was our conscious choice to experience so we can overcome and heal that and grow and expand more.

All we have to do is find a way not to pity ourselves, but to step into our full power instead and to change it.

I know I could have done none of that, or even understood this, without meditation and creating a strong connection to source energy, the energy that nourishes us and where all live comes from – and that can explain and show everything to us.

And I do think that there is nothing else worth investing in more, for the simple reason, that once you have that connection, you begin to see that nothing is in vain, that every tiny thought matters and changes your environment, that anything is indeed possible for anyone and that whatever we wish for can be ours.

It also shows us that nothing is bad, even if it might seem that way.

There are no wrong choices per se, just wrong choices for the outcome we wish to achieve. So we can fail and learn and all is always forgiven – once we learn to forgive ourselves.

And that we are never alone, guidance, love, support is always available to us in the spirit world.

We have incredible powers, possibilities, joys, strength, but to see and discover and explore all of that we need to stop busying ourselves with work, other people, problems and so on and start listening to and being ourselves: quiet, determined, ready, open and full of love.

As long as we wait for change outside of us, as long as we blame anyone for anything going wrong in our lives, as long as we see anyone else as our enemy, we are the ones who lose because we give our power away – and all we have to do to take it back is to change our mind and take full responsibility for our lives.

Once we understand that we have incredible powers, we can begin to use them.

So wherever we have the colour black in our wheel is where we need this reminder the most. It means that to fully live and expand and explore in that area of our lives, is where we need to go looking for our answers within and not without.

6. Using the Colour black in your Environment

Black, like grey and brown, are most likely not colours you want to use too excessively, though I guess that can also be said for any colour.

But while a yellow wall will surely lift your spirits, a black wall might not, so I think you get my point and will choose wisely here for yourself.

I had some friends who would call themselves Goths or Emos growing up, and I lived in a city (Leipzig) for a while, which hosted one of the biggest Gothic Festivals, so I got to experience and encounter many people wearing a lot of black.

What did they all have in common? They were quite introverted and so their choice of clothes underlined, and most likely deepened their general mood and urge for introspection.

I like wearing black every once in a while too, but if we want to live a balanced and fulfilled life, we should also see that we have a well-balanced and diverse surrounding that connects us to all colours and thus all qualities of life.

However, nothing is more inspiring to look within than the dark sky at night or a dim room, maybe with some candles, incense, soft music, but not many other distractions.

The possibility to look within and to get to know our true selves, is the gift we’ve all been given, the same way that we can get the best, most appropriate, most loving and kind and the wisest guidance from within.

The question each of us has to answer to find all of that is simply:

Are you ready to be free (to live and be your divine self) by honestly recognizing that you are perfect and have all it takes to live the life of your dreams?

Are you ready to admit that anyone who ever told you differently was lying, not because they had bad intentions, but simply because they loved you, wanted to protect you and didn’t know any better?

If you allow yourself to be you and to use all the powers and gifts you’ve been given, all will change for the better.

And if you’d like to gain more confidence in living your new, empowered life, join us in the CREATRIX School to practice this.

What others say about the Wheel of Colours

“The Wheel of Colours not only reminded me what my strengths and weaknesses are, but also enlightened me about how I can solve my weaknesses and use them as a means of creating a better life.

It also showed me how precise our unconscious choices are and that we should trust our basic instinctive voices more.

Thank you, Verena, for reminding me of my flaws and apprising how to solve them!”

Ebru

“Having Verena explain my Wheel of Colours to me was a very encouraging experience where I got to look at and appreciate a lot of aspects of my personality.

We talked about my gifts, but also the challenges I face according to my personal distribution of colours.

I particularly enjoyed the practical tips for the different areas of life that pointed me to things I want to work on and pay attention to.”

Corinna

“I wasn’t aware of the concept of the Wheel of Colours and stumbled upon it accidentally.

At first, I was rather sceptical because I didn’t know how the whole process was supposed to work. But the result was amazingly accurate and gave me a lot more insight.

I knew myself quite well before that, but through this experience I was able to deepen my self-reflection even further and today I am putting some things into practice in a practical way.

This new perspective has brought me more clarity.”

Maeva

“It was really good to find out that things I already had a vague idea about are actually true for me, and that I now know what I have to do to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Linda

“I find it amazing how coherent the wheel of colours is and how much truth you can find in it, even if what you learn might be difficult.

It’s very useful and makes a lot of sense to learn more about yourself this way, if you want to understand yourself better. Very insightful!”

Danina

“Right after I received the wheel, there was a situation where someone asked me what I was thinking and I could just point to the relevant part of the wheel and be understood.

I could never have said that so well and precisely in my own words.”

Annemarie

“The Wheel of Colours has helped me see my purpose in life, something I already had an idea about, but had a hard time acknowledging before seeing it so clearly.”
